Hedda Sterne's Handbag

This project derived from the photograph of the 'Irascibles' the celebrated image of the New York School of 1951. This is an enlargement of the handbag Hedda Sterne is holding in the photograph. It opens up ideas on the status of the object and document in the analysis of the past.

This stated out a s a photograph of a simple yet curious object. The text that circles around this object was written in 2013. I revisited both, manipulating the image to match the feel of the text.

This map is a curiosity, as it was re-printed on the back of maps previously produced for the invasion of Britain by the German forces. I wanted to present this anomaly by sampling the various texts found on the front and back of the map, in the three languages

This is from a series of image text works called 'Openings'. This refers to the first page of a musical score, in this case Goyescas by Granadas. It shows the pages overlaid with a colour notation with an original text alongside.
